The Brookline Public Library

We had to get a shot of the library. The outside doesn't do justice to the inside but I don't think the library employees or visitors would think it too cool if the sound of the camera's shutter echoed through the silent halls of the building. Right after taking this picture, we ate some delicious homemade chocolate chip and nut cookies from the local family pastry shop. What a lovely afternoon!

Around Brookline...

Finally, the purple thing in the front "yard" is budding.

Brad and I went for a nice little walk around Brookline yesterday and documented some of our sights. This town is so interesting...it is cuddled right up into Boston but proudly distinct from the city. I really love the little nooks and crannies of the town. We spent some time in the Brookline Public Library, which looks more like the University of Michigan's law library than a town's public library. We're going back there this afternoon to do some reading. We picked up a couple of DVD's of Keeping Up Appearances, one of our favorite shows, and spend the afternoon watching a few episodes before meeting some friends at Boston Beer Works to watch UNC (my pick) beat Louisville (Brad's pick). These pictures are of a church we walked by...just one of many that spring up on random streets in this town!

Laura's foot...

...is very messed up. Quick version:
1. Pain in heel since Boston Marathon, April 2007
2. Didn't take care of pain
3. Finally went to doctor 1 month and 1 day ago
4. X-ray said nothing
5. MRI said everything. Bad plantar fascia. Ruptured nerve fibers around plantar fascia and culcaneus. Extreme inflammation
6. Crutches and boot
7. 1 month and 1 day later....still in boot. Only now I'm in the boot all the time except when I'm sleeping. And, I can't exercise at all. Not even biking. Not even swimming. Nada. And I have a foot injected full of steroids. The numbness wore off from the shot, now all I feel is intense pain
8. And life continues...

Crazy Calculations

This is an excerpt from an email I sent to Sloan a couple of days ago.

"i was thinking about it and, if i graduate when i expect to, i'll
have been in regular school for 14 years (4-18), college for 4 years (18-22),
and graduate school for 6 years (23-24.5; 25-26.5; 27-30). That is a total of 24
years. That means that I'll have been in school for 80% of my life."

Crazy stats. I'm going to have a huge shock when I enter the world of work. Unless I decide to get another degree...he he...

Weekend was a pretty fun time. Brad spent Friday night at a retreat with his colleagues. He attended a few seminars, ate great food, played some board games, and missed me. My Friday night was fun...dinner with Sloan and Katie (I had some great shrimp) and then the 3 of us went out for our friend, Rod's, birthday. We went to a great pub in the financial district. I felt my age though, thats for sure. When the lights went down, the 21 year olds started shakin' their thang, and the shots came out, I (with Sloan and Katie) left. I was in bed by midnight. Ah!

On Saturday, Brad and I went out on a sushi date. We had some fantastic sake (my new favorite drink as of a few weeks ago when we had it at a restaurant) and delicious sushi.

On Sunday, Brad ran 17 miles, I swam for 1.5 hours, and we both lazed around the condo reading books, chatting, and watching the cats fight.

The cats are fighting right now. Joey just knocked over a stack of over 1000 pages of research that I need to read. Earlier today, when Brad came home from work, he found me reading on the bed with Samantha lying on my back. Very unusual.

Above pictures are from Friday night. I'd include more pictures of Brad but he doesn't take the camera with him when he goes out!
