Boston Marathon

Monday - the Boston Marathon took over Boston! After my own little workout in the morning, I met up with Katie F. & Katie W. and the 3 of us went to the bakery to pick up some fresh pastries, Peets to grab a hot coffee, and Katie F's place to meet a few friends to watch the marathon on TV for a bit. We saw some teammates dashing across the screen and filed out to the street a couple of hours later to watch the race live.

Olympic Trials

I watched the women's Olympic trials today...it was held in Boston on a gorgeous day and a bunch of us cheered for friends and one of our teammates as they flew through the city. It was incredible.

John and Rod watching the trials...waiting for our teammate to fly by!

Deena Kastor! Winner of the Olympic Trials and our #1 representative for Beijing.

Turkey in the parking garage

Yes, its true. Brad and I were walking to our car today, chatting about the importance of socio-economic status in school choice policies, when we both stopped short, mid-sentence. Next to the "Green Machine" stood a gigantic wild turkey. It was a hoot. We made a plan of attack. Brad approached the car from the left. I stayed to the right because my gimpy body can't outrun a turkey right now. Brad was prepared to hop the fence next to him if the turkey attacked. He snuck into the car and started the engine. The turkey ruffled its feather. Brad pulled out of the parking spot, picked me up on the fly, and off we went. I looked in the review mirror. The turkey was still standing there like nothing had happened. Funny.

I think I scared some people with my blog entry about my foot. No worries, friends and family. I was just feeling sorry for myself out loud. I'm just fine. I actually was able to walk without my trusty boot the other day for about an hour. The good news is that I'm getting really really strong since I lift twice a day, every day. The bad news is that I'm not as aerobically fit as I need to be to race outdoor track season well. I visit the orthopedic surgeon on Thursday for an update.
